the things I have seen and understood without ever touching (1/22/2017)

(dedicated to someone’s moments of
being unsure if she wants to be known)

The things I have
seen and understood
without ever touching
can be measured
in planetary mass.
1.898 x 1027 kg,
mathematically expanding
giants from bedrock
to zenith.

I see them through
a panoply of stars,
through the innumerable
rings of Saturn,
across the red dunes
of Mars.  I see them
through the entropic
yet geometrically-precise
blooms of an
overactive mind.

You, too, sometimes
unfold in this unknown.
You sometimes break open
the worried constellations
of my sleep where I
should be alone
but am not

because even though
possibilities and
probabilities exist,
we know that in the
next galaxy there is
more than one sun.
