I’ve essentially always been the same person: quiet, subtle, and serious, restless and thoughtful with a tendency to understate; a loner. People who see me but don’t know me might be surprised to find out how often I feel like I’m breaking apart on the inside. Mick Kelley described the feeling perfectly after someone accused her of never having loved: “What would Portia say if she knew that always there had been one person after another? And every time it was like some part of her would bust in a hundred pieces?”
